The Project Management School (Projektledarskolan)

What I wish someone had taught me earlier

Five course parts for IT project managers — built on real projects in the public sector. I developed and delivered the training for Region Jönköping County's IT organisation, with my own material all the way through.

Background

Why build my own project management school?

After twenty years in IT projects I keep seeing the same pattern: projects rarely crash on the technology. They crash on unclear ownership, suppliers steering instead of being steered, organisations that aren't ready — and project managers stuck in administration instead of leadership.

When I was asked to put together a course for project managers, this was exactly what I wanted to teach. The training starts from real situations and mixes theory, discussion and concrete examples from real projects.

The course parts

Five parts — one connecting thread

From personal leadership, through delivery and benefit, to the organisation around you. Projects are about people more than plans.

Part 1

From administrator to leader

Project management is about more than schedules and status reports. We start with the project manager's most important job: creating direction, building trust and leading people towards a shared goal.

Part 2

When reality doesn't follow the plan

Every project meets setbacks. This part is about spotting problems early, adapting the plan and leading on when the conditions change.

Part 3

Managing suppliers

Many IT projects are run together with external suppliers. We go through how to build a good working relationship, follow up on deliveries and make sure the delivery supports the organisation's goals.

Part 4

Understand the client and secure the benefit

A project isn't a success just because it's delivered on time. This part is about understanding the organisation's needs, setting the right expectations and making sure the project actually leads to benefit.

Part 5

Leading in a complex organisation

Leading projects in larger organisations is rarely about formal authority. We work on how you build trust, navigate between competing interests and create momentum even in complex environments.

Ask an experienced project manager

I'm building an AI sounding board trained on my course material and my experience — for when you're stuck in the middle of a tricky project. It'll be here when it's ready.

Ask an experienced project manager In development
Our supplier misses deadline after deadline, but the steering committee won't escalate. What do I do?
I've been in exactly that spot. Start by asking the supplier to show you something that works, not just tell you how it's going. Then work out what the delays are actually costing you — that tends to get the steering committee to listen…
And if the supplier says everything's "on track"?
Then you say: great — so you can demo it on Friday, then? If you're on schedule, showing it is never a problem. If the other end goes quiet, you've got your answer…
